Aix-en-Issart is a small village of less than 280 souls on the Bras de Brosne trout river. It's a quiet place. Although its main business is agriculture, there is a a wood business and a furniture restorer, plus the remnants of a 16th century water mill. In summer, the village hosts the Bras de Brosne festival and is lit-up as part of the area's illuminated celebrations.

The rural landscape of green rolling hills is dominated by the sept vallees (seven rivers and their valleys). These rivers meander through open countryside and villages and have created a strong natural and architectural heritage. Country ways and traditions are still strong; this really is ‘real France – real close’.

The sept vallees area forms part of Pas de Calais (dept 62). This is a diverse region of France: the Opal Coast has stunning beaches (just 20 minutes away), there are large forested areas, good mainstream shopping as well as lots of little villages, markets and brocantes (flea markets and antique stores) to potter round.
